6 Mar 2023 Currently, the Retirement and Re-Employment Ages are 62 and 67 respectively. In 2019, the Government accepted the Tripartite Workgroup on Older Workers’ recommendations to raise the Retirement and Re-Employment Ages to 65 and 70 respectively by 2030. In a conversation with a colleague this morning, I will most likely be "force" to retire at the age of 65 with little opportunities for re-employment. So what does that meant for me? In Singapore the average life expectancy of male is 84 years old. That means if work is to now occupy a 8 hours of your daily life, you have to find something to replace this time after you stop work at 65. You have another 20 years to go! Therefore if I am to life that remaining 20 years, I should start planning how to live those years and if possible start preparing and start even living it out now.
